Greater Miami Valley EMS Council has an active Community Paramedicine Committee that meets monthly and is helping map out the future in this exciting area of EMS.  Community paramedicine, also called Mobile Integrated Health Care, is a new and evolving healthcare model that uses EMS in expanded roles by assisting with public health and primary healthcare and preventive services.  Such programs are growing across the nation, and the potential benefits of such programs are numerous.  With the announcement of potential reimbursement by Medicare and other insurers, the growth potential has become even greater.

The EMS Council is working to develop and implement programs that best meet the needs of our region, ranging from chronic disease management and injury prevention, to reduced 911 requests/transports for non-urgent patients, to appropriate follow-up care for high-risk patients without hospital readmission.  If you or your agency are interested,  we would welcome your involvement.

In fact, we are looking for members, and for a new chairperson.  If you would like to be considered to chair this important committee, or would just like to be placed on our email distribution list for committee members, send an email to gmvemsc@gdaha.org.

Our next meeting of the Community Paramedicine Committee will be at 12 Noon, Tuesday, June 18th.  The meeting will be held at Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, 241 Taylor St., Suite 130, Dayton, OH.  All are invited.

Lunch will be served.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP by Monday morning to slehrter@gdaha.org so we have a lunch count.
