We wanted to give you early notice: the next Quarterly Triage Drill (QTD) Day will be held on
January 21, 2020 starting at 2000 hrs. (8pm) and continue to January 22, 2020 at 2000 hrs. Each quarter we try to improve the QTD experience to help us all be better prepared. By the way, since we use Ribbons during the triage process but our
real-world use for the Tags is to document assessment and treatment, it’s been suggested that we should call them
Triage “Treatment Tags.” Great idea! Here’s what’s coming in January:
EMS
Emergency Departments (EDs)
Triage each patient to a SALT color category Place appropriate triage ribbon on each patient who arrives in an ED without one
Place a Triage Ribbon on EVERY patient Each ED RN should
completely fill out at least one “Treatment” Tag during each shift
Place a “Treatment Tag,” and fill it out completely Enter every ED patient into OHTrac (use the OHTrac app or other means)
If possible, enter the patient in OHTrac If patient put in OHTrac by EMS, make sure patient initials (NOT name) are entered
Scan Tag bar code using the app Enter one or two word diagnosis if penetrating trauma is involved
Enter the patient’s initials “Arrive” the patient at your hospital in OHTrac
Use MCI Radio Talk Groups during selected hours Monitor and use MCI Radio Talk Groups during selected hours
8PM to Midnight, then 8AM to Noon 8PM to Midnight, then 8AM to Noon
Each crew: review GDAHA Surgenet MCI page
Update GDAHA Surgenet MCI page at least once every 8 hours
Update patients in OHTrac to reflect when they are discharged or transferred
As we did last time, OHTrac incident creation and the request for RHNS messages will be performed by selected personnel from around the region. More about that in a separate
email. Every patient should receive a triage ribbon and a
GREEN triage tag (each tag has a unique number and bar code). And the goal again is to have
every patient entered into OHTrac. PLEASE: help us
get the word out to all line personnel, both in EMS and in EDs.
Finally, remember that on
January 9th from 9 AM to Noon, there will be a train-the-trainer program on all the MCI comm systems at Soin Medical Center. Bring your department phones, tablets, laptops with you – we’ll help you get them set up to use these MCI communications tools.
