Late Thursday, the CDC director approved use of additional booster vaccinations.  Boosters are now approved for all three vaccine brands in certain populations.

Those who received a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and fall into any of the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:

For those who got the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.  It is also now your option which vaccine to get for a booster.  CDC now allows for mix and match dosing for booster shots.

All county health departments in our region are expected to begin offering these boosters.  In most cases, that will begin this week.

In Montgomery County, boosters as well as first and second doses of all three vaccines will be available starting tomorrow.  Appointments are required, and can be obtained at www.phdmc.org or by calling (937) 225-6217.  Finally, while supplies last, some health departments (including PHDMC) are offering $100 gift cards will be awarded to Ohio residents receiving their first dose of COVID vaccine.

We are in the process of updating the EMS Just in Time Standing Orders (JITSOs) to cover use of the boosters.
