Dear EMS Agency Director:

The Ohio State Office of Rural Health (SORH) and the Ohio Division of EMS (ODEMS) continue to engage The Paramedic Foundation (TPF) in researching issues related to Ohio’s EMS workforce, including recruitment and retention.  As an EMS Agency Director, your participation in a survey will provide useful information concerning your hiring practices, wages and incentives provided to your staff, the ability to keep a full roster of staff, and how effective various incentives and benefits have been based on your experience. Your participation is voluntary and individual agency responses are confidential by default. You will be given the opportunity to "opt-in" to have your agency's responses shared with the Ohio Department of Health’s (ODH) State Office of Rural Health (SORH) and the Ohio Division of EMS (ODEMS). We anticipate the survey will take less than 15 minutes to complete. If you have any questions please reach out to TPF directly, Gary Wingrove (wingrove@paramedicfoundation.org).

The deadline for this survey is May 6, 2022. Shortly after survey completion, a preliminary summary findings report will be completed. In June, TPF will conduct five virtual meetings. At these meetings summary results will be presented and you will have the opportunity to help further validate the results and rank them in order of priority. After the final June meeting, the TPF team will create a final report. The final summary report will be public and will be shared with you.

Two additional surveys of EMS stakeholders are also being conducted concurrently by TPF, including one for EMS students who are currently enrolled in a training program and one directed at certified EMS personnel who are not currently affiliated with an EMS agency. The student survey will focus on why they chose to enter training and what is important to them for EMS agencies to consider when recruiting prospective employees. The unaffiliated survey will focus on where these certified people are currently working and what factors might help them return to the EMS agency workforce. Together, these three surveys will help identify best recruitment and retention practices that may be used to benchmark your agency's hiring practices against others and help guide your future recruiting practices. These best practices will be more meaningful if all EMS agencies participate, and will also help the ODEMS and the SORH tailor policy and other needs in the future

Thank you for your assistance and anticipated cooperation.
