Everybody, EMS and ED, PLEASE: know where your MCI “stuff” is and how to use it. Practice with it on QTDs (just don’t use White Tags).
Trust me, you know never know what’s coming! Are you really
ready for an MCI?
Please get this message with the flyer and your Job Aid (EMS or ED) to ALL Emergency Department personnel and ALL EMS personnel in your agencies! Don’t keep it to yourself!
Quarterly Triage Day (QTD) will be February 5th, 2024, at 8:00 PM through February 6th, 2024, at 8:00 PM. EMS and Emergency Department personnel must know
MCI tools including Triage Ribbons, triage Treatment Tags, MCI Radio Talk Groups, and patient tracking systems.
EMS:
- Put a Triage Ribbon and a
completed GREEN
Triage Treatment Tag
on every patient.
- DO NOT use White “live” Tags for the drill. Those are only for real world incidents.
- Make brief, MCI-style reports to the hospital over the MCI radio talk groups on every patient between 8:00 PM to Midnight on 2/5 and 8:00 AM until Noon
on 2/6.
- EMS must clearly identify the ED they are calling on MCI Radios and will often need to repeat who you’re calling.
- MCI call example: “Wayne Hospital, this is Greenville Medic 591 enroute with one Yellow, possible fractured ankle.”
- If possible, scan each Treatment Tag into Juvare EMTrack.
- Use the attached EMS Job Aid.
Emergency Departments:
- Update the Juvare EMResources Triage Categories for your ED at least every 8 hours
- KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE MCI TALK GROUPS and how to use those radios
- Put a Triage Ribbon on every patient (unless EMS already did).
- Each ED nurse should
completely fill out at least one GREEN
Triage Treatment Tag during
their shift.
- DO NOT use “live” White Tags for the drill. Those are only for real world incidents.
- EVERY patient’s
triage Treatment Tag must be scanned into Juvare EMTrack. This is used to
track hospital QTDparticipation. - Monitor MCI radios from 8:00 PM to Midnight on 2/5 and 8:00 AM to Noon on 2/6.
- You must listen carefully for your ED to be called
– there are no alert tones on the MCI Radio Talk Groups.
-
Expect brief, MCI-style Radio Calls. If crews give reports that would be too extensive in an MCI, give them courteous feedback. We
all learn from each other.
- Expect multiple Regional Hospital Notifications
- Use the attached ED Job Aid.
No Con Ed quiz this time. Coming back in the future!
Remember, we participate in Quarterly Triage Day in order to prepare ourselves so that we are ready for the real thing. It is essential that we practice so we bring out our best during real
world incidents!
Thank you for taking the time to train and help provide better patient outcomes! Next 2024 QTD Dates:
- Quarter 2 2024- May 14 & 15 – Tuesday/Wednesday
-
Quarter 3 2024- July 17 & 18 – Wednesday/Thursday
-
Quarter 4 2024- October 24 & 25 – Thursday/Friday
