"Stepping On"
Fall Prevention Training
Become a Program Facilitator
Stepping On is a multifaceted
falls-prevention program for the community-residing elderly. About 30% of older people who fall lose their self-confidence and start to go out less often. Inactivity leads to social isolation and loss of muscle strength and balance, increasing the risk of
falling.
Stepping On aims to
break that cycle, engaging people is a range of relevant fall preventive strategies. Stepping On content draws on current evidence for falls prevention. The program has been proven to reduce
falls.
This Course is designed for Health Professionals (minimum qualification Aged care Certificate IV), experienced group educators
who have completed the Stepping On one day facilitator training.
Participants will also be required to watch a Stepping on Program
outside of the course, preferably before training. Guest speakers who attend the training need only observe the portion of the Stepping On training relevant to them.
Participants must speak English and be fluent (written and spoken).The potential facilitator will need to have insights
into the beliefs and values of the older person.
It is desirable that
the Participant works part time or has a job description that can allow the Stepping On
program to be incorporated into their work load.
The following steps are needed to achieve competency as a facilitator:

Complete the Introductory Course

Run a program for 7 weeks as a co-facilitator

Facilitate a 7 week program

Complete the Advanced Course
