An exploding trend in the fire service is the challenges of balancing work life and home life.  Many firefighters face a variety of challenges in their work life such as exhaustion, physical injuries, compassion fatigue, PTSD, and a variety of other challenges.  These issues we face at work often follow us home and affect our home lives.  Due to this Local 136 is hosting a workshop on October 22 and 23 at the activity center from 1000-1200 both days.  The workshop will be presented by Dr. Donnie Hutchinson, Dr. Hutchinson is a professor at University of Dayton, he has authored 2 books on work life balance and has presented at several IAFF conferences on the topic.  He specifically focuses his research on work life balance issues with firefighters.  Please refer to the attached information sheet about the program and an evaluation sheet filled out by firefighters that have attended his workshops in the past.  Please come out and attend one of these sessions to learn some techniques on developing a better balance between work and home life and also be able to pass some of this knowledge on to members that might not attend  but could benefit from these as well.
